New Italian wines at West Palm Wines

I am always looking for new and exciting wines to offer here at WPW and this week I have two beautiful wines in stock. First is Crivelli’s Ruché, a red Italian wine grape variety from the Piedmont region (the name comes from “roche” which in Italian means rocks which descibes the terroir of these vineyards). It is largely used in making Ruché di Castagnole Monferrato, a small production red varietal wine which was granted Denominazione di Origine Controllata (DOC) status by presidential decree on October 22, 1987. The current DOC recognized area of production for the wine, covers only about 100 acres of vines around the villages of Castagnole Monferrato and is, therefore, one of the lowest production varietal wines in Italy.

*2006 Crivelli Ruche di Castagnole Monferrato- $23.50btl or $253.80cs                                                                                                                                   Medium bodied, pepper and wild spices. Fine underlying acidity, good persistence on the palate, a deep ruby color, and a nose of roses, wild cherries, earth, and tree bark. This is unlike any wine you had and keeps changing in the glass. Pair with wild game and hearty meats. It is a must have!!!!

Next we have a wine from Friuli-Venezia Giulia, a region that is traversed by the major transport routes between the east and west of southern Europe. It encompasses the historical region of Friuli and the geographical region of Venezia Giulia, each own with its distinct identity. It is best known for wines like Pinot Grigio and Pinot Bianco but it also hosts and large number of international varietals like Cabernet, Merlot and our feature wine, Sauvignon Blanc.

*2006 Brunner Sauvignon Blanc Venezia Giulia- $17.95btl or $193.86cs                                                                                                                                            This wine has the most fragrant nose; fresh cut basil and lots of anise. Ripe and rich, honeyed citrus fruits, with a hint of celery salt. Full-bodied, with good balance and a long, fresh finish. Rich and powerful. This wine is awesome with fresh seafood or just a beautiful summer salad.
