Fontodi Offering

The name Fontodi comes from the Latin “Fons- odi” and dates back to Roman times since when vines have been cultivated in the village of Panzano in the Tuscany region. Additionally sixteenth century documents providing evidence of vinification on the holdings and farm of “Case Via” have recently been found. From the beginning of the nineteen hundreds the wines of Fontodi have been exported all over the world, receiving many awards for their quality at important exhibitions. The Manetti family, who originate from the Chianti region, have been devoted to the production of traditional terracotta for over three centuries. This is another set of top-notch releases from proprietor Giovanni Manetti and long-time consulting oenologist Franco Bernabei. The Flaccianello is a spectacular wine and is quickly becoming the new cult supertuscan wine. I love the wines from Fontodi and I’m always proud to offer them at West Palm Wines.

*2006 Fontodi Flaccianello della Pieve Vino da Tavola
*750ml- $115.00btl or $1150.00cs
*1.5L- $230.00ea or $1150.00 per six pack
*3L- $550.00ea
(Robert Parker 96pts)The 2006 Flaccianello (Sangiovese) is just as extraordinary as it was when I tasted it from barrel. This spectacularly ripe and concentrated wine reveals masses of dark cherries, plums, licorice, smoke, violets, French oak and minerals that coat the palate with extraordinary richness. The wine possesses plenty of structure, but the sheer density of the fruit provides stunning balance. The 2006 Flaccianello is one of the more primary wines of the vintage, and it will require considerable patience. Flaccianello continues to prove that Panzano’s Conca d’Oro is one of the most privileged spots for Sangiovese in Tuscany.

*2006 Fontodi Chianti Classico- $33.95btl or $338.00cs
(Robert Parker 91pts) The Chianti Classico is typically one of the last Chiantis to be bottled, but the 2006 shows all the qualities I encountered when I tasted various lots earlier this year, prior to final assembly and bottling. It is a big, super-ripe Chianti that captures all of the best qualities of the vintage in its super-ripe fruit and beautifully defined aromatics. This is a serious, structured Chianti that can be enjoyed now, but that also has the stuffing to age gracefully for years.

*2006 Fontodi Pinot Nero- $62.95btl or $630.00cs
(Robert Parker- 91pts)Fontodi’s 2006 Pinot Nero presents a very ripe, full-bodied expression of Pinot fruit, showing outstanding length and tons of style. It is one of the very few Tuscan Pinots that manages to reconcile varietal qualities with the warmth and generosity of Tuscany. This weighty, rich wine should develop beautifully in bottle.
